AT Home Service (Assistive Technology at home)

Advice on purchase and/or loan of specialist equipment to help those with a physical or sensory disability manage more independently at home or to assist carers to provide care at home. An assessment is required in order to determine the equipment which may be required.

The AT Home service (Assistive Technology at home) is an integrated rehabilitation, equipment and adaptations service for people of all ages who have a physical or sensory disability, and their carers.

This service covers health and social care and aims to promote well being by enabling people to remain as independent as possible in the community through the use of equipment, adaptations and new technology.

Enfield Council works in partnership with the Enfield Primary Care trust, disabled people and their carers, and recognises the importance of service users' experience and expertise.

The AT Home service brings together services that assist disabled people. The services include information, advice and assessment for assistive technology, such as community equipment and home adaptations.

All services are provided at the AT Home Centre through either home visiting or drop-in facilities.

At the centre there is:
A Demonstration Resource area
Disabled people can drop-in to the centre to try out pieces of equipment in the demonstration area. This facility incorporates a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and lounge in which a range of equipment and assistive technology is demonstrated. In the resource areas, both public and professionals are able to find information on a range of equipment, adaptations (both major and minor) and communication aids to enable independence.

Training facility for professionals, disabled people and carers
The demonstration and resource area provides the facility for "hands on" training in equipment provision and awareness. There is also a conference room that offers facilities for presentations and meetings.

An equipment storage area
A large store at the rear of the premise accommodates all the community equipment and the team of technicians have a workshop site where they can prepare a range of equipment and minor adaptation for fitting in service users' homes.

Eligibility
The service is for people of all ages, who live in the London Borough of Enfield, and:
Have a physical and/or sensory disability.
Have a disability that significantly affects their ability to carry out essential activities of daily living
Are a carer for someone with a disability.

Required Customer Information
General information about place of residence, medical conditions/disability will be required at point of contact.

Service Level Agreement and Turnaround
The Service aims to carry out assessments within 28 days of referral. Following recommendation for specialist equipment the service aims to deliver equipment within 7 days.
