Childcare - child-minding information

Information and advice to parents and carers looking for registered childminders in L.B of Enfield.

Parents and Carers can call Informed Families:
To request a list of Enfield childminders with vacancies, they will also be able to request a list of registered Nursery, Pre-School and Playgroup providers and Out of School Childcare.

Registered Childminders are child carers that work in their own homes to provide care and learning opportunities for other people’s children.

Childminders who have applied to care solely for children over the age of seven years are placed on the voluntary part of Ofsted’s register

Choosing a registered childminder:
It is then the parents/carers responsibility to contact the childminders to assess whether the service they are able to provide could be suitable for their child and family circumstances. Parents and carers are then expected to arrange initial visits to the childminder/s they are interested in.

Payment:
Parents and carers should then expect to negotiate a contract with the childminder they have finally chosen – the contact is solely between the parent/s and the childminder concerned and should cover all aspects of their fee structure, holiday or sickness arrangements, hours of services etc.

Help to pay Childminding Fees:
• Parents will need to be aware if they are eligible for the Childcare Element of the Working Tax Credit
• Some employers may offer their employees childcare vouchers via a Salary Sacrifice or Salary Plus Scheme.
• Lone parents who join new Deal for Lone Parents may be eligible for some help with their childcare fees while they train or work. Information is available from www.newdeal.gov.uk or from Lone Parent Advisors at Job Centres.
