Housing – council – rechargeable repairs

Where a property requires repair as the result of damage or negligence caused by the tenant the local authority will charge for the cost of work to rectify the problem.

If the tenant, members of their family or invited guests cause damage to Council property either by negligence or on purpose then the Council will carry out the repair to fix the problem but will recharge the tenant the cost of the repair. Example broken windows, blocked toilets, lock change due to lost keys.

If the charge is paid in advance then no administration fee is charged, If an invoice has to be sent to recover the money then a fee of £30 is charged to cover the cost of the extra administration.

A special policy applies to elderly and disabled tenants living on their own where the charges for this service are not applied.
