Housing – council – modernisation schemes

For council owned properties which are particularly old the council will implement a modernisation scheme to bring the property up to acceptable standards. This may involve rewiring, new windows, new doors etc.

In addition to the Decent Homes Standard the Council will undertake a programme of works to improve the quality of residents’ homes and estates. These works include landlord’s obligations to maintain major building services such as lifts, routine and periodic planned maintenance and cyclical decoration works, improvements to the facilities and use of the estates and security upgrades including windows and doors upgraded to meet Secured by Design standards, the provision of controlled entry and improved lighting.
These proposed schemes will be presented at meetings of the relevant Community Housing Partnership (CHP). Through the CHP process residents will have the opportunity to shape the works that the Council undertakes.
