Dealing with requests for places at secondary schools from parents of prospective pupils. Allocation of school places according to Local Authority policy. Transferring from Primary School to Secondary SchoolThe Enfield Schools Admissions Service (ESAS) is responsible for coordinating the allocation of secondary transfer places in Enfield to make sure that as many children as possible get places at schools of their parents’ preference. Full information about the admission arrangements in Enfield, including admission criteria for all schools, can be found in the booklet “Your Guide to Secondary Schools in Enfield”. If children reside outside the Borough of Enfield, parents need to contact the Local Authority for the borough or county in which they live. When applying for a secondary school place, parents can express a preference for six schools. This includes voluntary aided, foundation and out of Borough schools but does not include private schools. Mid Year AdmissionsIf a secondary aged child moves into the Borough of Enfield, parents contact ESAS by telephone or in person for advice as to which community schools have a vacancy in the year group required and the addresses and telephone numbers of voluntary aided and foundation schools for the parents to contact direct. This is also the procedure if families move within the Borough and the child’s secondary school is now too far to travel to. Parents have the right to appeal against the decision not to allocate their child a place at a school of their preference. To lodge an appeal, contact ESAS for information and appeal forms.
