Dealing with requests for places at primary schools from parents of prospective pupils. Allocation of school places according to LEA policy. Reception AllocationsIn Enfield, children are admitted to Reception classes in the academic year during which they become five. The Enfield Schools Admissions Service (ESAS) is responsible for coordinating the allocation of reception school places in Enfield to make sure that as many children as possible get places at schools of their parents’ preference. Full information about the admission arrangements in Enfield, including admission criteria for all schools, can be found in the booklet “Applying for a Primary School in Enfield”. When applying for a reception place, parents can express a preference for three schools within the Borough of Enfield. This includes voluntary aided (church) schools but does not include private schools. If it is not possible to offer a place at a preferred school, the child’s name is included on the reserve list of any community schools applied for and parents are informed of schools with vacancies. Mid Year AdmissionsIf a primary aged child moves into the Borough of Enfield, parents contact ESAS by telephone or in person for advice as to which schools are likely to have a vacancy in the year group required and the addresses and telephone numbers of local schools. This is also the procedure if families move within the Borough and the child’s primary school is now too far to travel to. Parents can contact schools direct should they wish. Parents have the right to appeal against the decision not to allocate their child a place at a school of their preference. To lodge an appeal, contact ESAS for information and appeal forms.
