Licences - performing animals

It is an offence for anyone to train or exhibit a performing animal unless they are registered to do so under the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925. The Act is designed to cover the use of animals in stage performances, at circuses, as part of exhibitions etc.

The Licensing Team administers and enforces premises licences, permits and notices, in addition to a range of other licences, permits and registrations. The Licensing Team operates during normal Office Hours, although Enforcement Officers routinely work outside office hours to check for compliance on licence times, conditions etc.

We also work with a range of other ‘Responsible Authorities’, including the Police and Fire authorities, Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Planning and Child Protection Services.

Licence applicants can contact us by telephone or email, and information can be found on the Council’s website or personal appointments can be pre-arranged to offer help and advice. Any application must be made by post or personal appointment only, as a payment and other enclosures must be submitted with the form(s). Application forms can be found on the Council’s website under ‘L’ for Licensing or requested by telephone or email.
