Local residents who are not currently a council tenant may be eligible for sheltered housing according to age and needs. The council carry out an assessment of applicants and maintain a waiting list until suitable properties become available.

We have about 900 sheltered housing flats of different sizes, in various schemes and locations in Enfield. Sheltered Housing offers independent living with support to people over the age of 60 or those with disabilities. The level of support and how it is delivered can varying depending on the needs of the individual. * During working hours, each scheme has a Sheltered Housing Officer. * All schemes are linked to Enfield’s Community Alarm Service, which provides a 24 hour response service to all the tenants. Sheltered Housing can help you if you would like to benefit from the support it gives you to stay independent in your own home. Different people have different support needs, which can increase or reduce over time. That is why we provide ‘Support Planning’ to meet you changing needs. This also gives you more choice and flexibility in the service you get.
A Housing application will need to be completed and returned to the Housing Assessments Team at John Wilkes House, once registered and points awarded the form will be passed to the sheltered housing team who will arrange an appointment to visit you in your current accommodation in you live within Enfield to carry out a sheltered housing assessment. if you do not live in the Borough then arrangements will be made for the assessment to be done by the Housing Association in the Borough where you live or at the home of a friend or relative who lives in Enfield. The assessment includes explaining the benefits of living in sheltered housing and establishing what support you would require and the supporting people charges. Once the assessment has been done, your case will be awarded additional sheltered housing points. You will either be accepted on the waiting list for sheltered housing or your case will be returned to Housing Assessments for general needs housing. As soon as a suitable property to meet your needs becomes available, our Rehousing Team will contact you to make an appointment for you to view the property and provide you with details of the rent and other charges (water, heating, grounds maintenance and caretaking if applicable.).
