The Local Authority (LA) will give advice to parents regarding home education. Initial guidance on home education procedures will be forwarded when requested, and should parents decide to withdraw their child from school the LA will monitor the education parents put in place. If parents wish to proceed with home education they write to the Headteacher of their child’s school informing them of their intention. The child’s name will then be removed from the school roll. Parents will be sent the LA guidance on home education, together with a form requesting information about the education they will be putting in place for their child. An Adviser will then visit the family to discuss the education programme and the long-term education plans for the child. The Adviser will write a report and parents will be sent a copy. The Adviser will normally visit annually to monitor that the programme of study is being implemented satisfactorily and in accordance with the child’s age, aptitude and ability. The LA will not direct the child’s learning, nor provide equipment, books or other resources. When parents choose to home educate, the roll of the LA is to assess whether the education being provided is appropriate and effective. Eligibility
